Position Statements of the Health Physics Society

Position statements of the Health Physics Society (HPS) are prepared by or under the direction of the Scientific and Public Issues Committee (S&PIC) and approved by the Board of Directors in accordance with the Bylaws and Rules of the Society. The S&PIC is comprised of five members—the immediate past president (chair), president, president-elect, and two most recent president emeriti.

Position statements are prepared after an official position has been approved by the Board of Directors. They are the positions that the HPS takes on a topic. Positions are concise declarations regarding an issue relevant to radiation safety.

The position statement [PS] and background information document [BI] numbers indicate the sequential number [XXX] and revision number [-X] of the document. Expired (removed from active status due to being overcome by events), superseded (replaced by a later revision), and deleted (removed by Board action) position statements are available for the information of Society members only.

The following Health Physics Society position statements are portable document format files in alphabetical order by topic or in descending numerical order by statement number.

The "Date" column refers to the date of original issue, of current revision, or of statement reaffirmation, whichever is the most recent action.

The "Background Info?" column links to an accompanying document with greater discussion and information about the position statement where it exists.
