The 66th Annual Meeting of the Health Physics Society (HPS) is going hybrid this year! It is kicking off with several virtual days (20 and 22 July) and continues the following week (25–29 July) in a hybrid format with virtual and in-person attendance options in Phoenix, Arizona.
The Student Support Committee (SSC) is excited to be able to host all our regular events this year! The SSC sponsored events will include:
Virtual Quiz Bowl (18–30 July)
The Quiz Bowl is a great chance to exercise your health physics muscles! Students and young professionals, meaning those yet to become a CHP, are encouraged to participate. This year's Quiz Bowl will be a bit different—it will be fully remote. Health physics questions will be posted to the Student Committee Facebook page on 18 July. The questions will range from "you should know this" to advanced. You can sign up as an individual or team by email. Email your answers to the same address any time until 31 July. Questions will be graded by our team, with the harder questions being worth significantly more points. Top scores will be mailed a prize!
Please contact Norbert Hugger for more information or to sign up!
Virtual Speed Networking (22 July):
Our Virtual Speed Networking will be held on the Glimpse platform on 22 July, 7–8:30 pm (EST)/4–5:30 pm (PST)! You do not need to download any software or create an account to join the event, just join by clicking here.
For more information on how the Glimpse platform works and detailed instructions (including what you may want to do before the event), please visit the SSC sponsored events page or contact Caleigh Samuels.
In-Person Speed Networking and Reception (25 July)
The In-Person Speed Networking event will be held on 25 July, 5:15–6:45 pm in Room 232A. After the resounding success of the first speed networking event in 2019, the HPS Student Support Committee is excited to once again host the dynamic and engaging event aimed at allowing students and early-career professionals to connect with more experienced individuals within the HPS in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Everyone is welcome, and snacks will be provided!
Please contact Dawn Montgomery for more information.
Hybrid Committee Meeting (28 July 28)
Our committee meeting will take place on Wednesday afternoon, 28 July (please check the conference program for the final time and location). The committee meeting is open to all who want to get involved in HPS and the SSC, especially students who would like to become committee members! We could always use volunteers to help plan and run our events, develop new ideas to engage and support HPS student members, and act as student representatives of the Society. Options will be available to join in person or virtually via SignalWire.
Please contact Caitlin Condon or Dawn Montgomery for more information.
Other Events of Interest
Many other events will be of interest to students throughout the meeting as well! Here are a few you don't want to miss:
- Student Worker Orientation: If you are a student worker, be sure to attend this orientation session Sunday, 25 July, 9–10 am at the Convention Center, room North 221ABC
- Exhibitor sponsored lunches: Monday, 26 July, and Tuesday, 27 July, 12–1:30 pm in the Exhibit Hall
- Poster Session: Monday, 26 July, 1–3 pm in the Exhibit Hall
- Welcome Reception: Monday, 26 July, 5–7 pm in the Exhibit Hall
- Awards Luncheon: Wednesday, 28 July, 12–2 pm
Also, remember that all technical sessions are open to students and, as an added benefit, students can attend any PEPs free of charge (as long as there is space in the room)!
We encourage and welcome all students, early-career professionals, and anyone who wants to get involved with HPS students through our committee and/or mentor and networking programs to attend any of our events! We are looking forward to seeing you in person in Phoenix or virtually in a few weeks!
