Deirdre Elder, Meeting Task Force Chair
The 67th Health Physics Society (HPS) Annual Meeting, being held in Spokane 17–21 July 2022, has more than 15 special sessions that have been planned by sections and HPS members to encourage a deeper understanding of a topic of interest. As we look forward to the meeting, we will be showcasing some of the special sessions.
One of the first to kick off a week of great sessions is "Government Relations Program." If you are interested in the ways the HPS interacts with federal agencies and Congress, you won't want to miss this session. Federal Agency Liaison Craig Little and Congressional Liaison David Connolly will share information about the program. There will also be speakers from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Department of Energy, and National Science and Technology Council. You may not be aware of all the ways the HPS works to encourage legislation, regulations, and public policies based on sound science and good radiation safety practices.
The special session "Workings of the Health Physics Society: A 'How to' Training Session" will take place Thursday morning. This will be a great session if you are a new member or if you want to be more active in the Society and aren't sure where to start. If you have questions about how the Society functions or about career transitions, this session is for you. Do you want to recognize a colleague? Are you unsure about submitting papers for publication in the Health Physics Journal or a presentation at an HPS meeting? This session will have answers, and you can ask questions if the speakers don't address the things that have you curious.
There are great sessions scheduled all throughout the meeting. Make plans to attend all week!
