The 67th Health Physics Society (HPS) Annual Meeting in Spokane, 17–21 July 2022, includes 18 special sessions, as of early July, that have been planned by sections and HPS members to encourage a deeper understanding of a topic of interest. As we look forward to the meeting, here are some examples of what’s planned.
"Radiation Safety Issues in Radiation Oncology" is a medical health physics special session being held on Thursday afternoon. There are several new technologies and products that offer new treatment options for cancer patients. Gain important knowledge about these emerging technologies from the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the Conference of Radiation Control Program Directors, and physicists with experience and insights.
A special session on Wednesday afternoon will describe evolutionary changes underway within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) to establish a medical physics enterprise encompassing advanced software platforms with dose registry and the impact of these evolutionary changes on the responsibilities of the radiation safety officer.
The HPS Women in Radiation Protection Section is sponsoring the session "Challenges, Barriers, and Successes in a HP Career - From STEM to Retirement." This is an opportunity to hear from health physicists at different points in their careers and join the discussion. Don't miss this session on Tuesday afternoon.
Health physicists who work in academic, industrial, and research radiation protection should put the "AIRRS Roundtable" on their calendars for Thursday morning. This will be the 3rd year for the HPS Academic, Industrial, and Research Radiation Safety (AIRRS) Section to host a roundtable discussion with subject-matter experts to lead discussions on challenges facing health physicists in these areas. Prepare your comments and questions to share during the session.
The Early Career Professionals Section is sponsoring a special session on Thursday afternoon. Come learn about the work health physicists perform in sectors such as environmental, industrial, energy production, academic, veterinary, or medical. You will also learn about interviewing, leadership, and volunteering. Whether you are a student, early in your career, or a seasoned professional, you can learn something from this session and participate in a lively roundtable.
