On Thursday, 27 July 2023, the Health Physics Society (HPS) Board of Directors (BOD) approved the bylaws for the newly formed Health Physics Academic Education and Research Center (HPAERC). The HPAERC is a nonprofit organization, independent from HPS proper, designed to solicit and receive funds and, in turn, disburse them to university programs training health physicists. The next task for the HPS BOD is to name at least five willing HPS members to be the HPAERC BOD. Following that action, the new HPAERC BOD will need to solicit and select interested parties to serve as members of the Fundraising Committee, the Award Rules Committee, and the Awards Committee. The Fundraising Committee will solicit donations from individuals, government entities, corporations, and foundations. The Award Rules Committee will develop the procedures for disbursing funds to education recipients. The Awards Committee will decide which person or organization receives funds.
