The International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) has established a mentorship programme to engage university students and early-career professionals and scientists as mentees in ICRP task groups with the guidance of an ICRP member as mentor.
ICRP Task Group 123, "Classification of Harmful Radiation-Induced Effects on Human Health for Radiological Protection Purposes," is seeking a mentee to assist in the review of the current literature underpinning classification of radiation effects as stochastic or tissue reactions, with the aim of clarifying the rationale for the current classification and, in addition, to review the potential need for revision to the definitions and/or the system of classification related to the specific radiation protection objectives.
The project will include a specific focus on literature related to diseases of the cardiovascular system and radiation cataract, as well as other emerging radiation linked health effects, and the work undertaken by the mentee will feed into at least one publication as well as the Task Group 123 final report. The position will be for one year and the mentee will be expected to work closely under the supervision of Task Group Vice-Chair and Committee 1 Member Liz Ainsbury as well as other Task Group 123 members as appropriate on the different aspects of the literature review.
The application deadline is 22 September 2023. More information can be found on the ICRP website Mentorship Programme page.
