ANSI/HPS N13.36, Ionizing Radiation Safety Training for Workers, was last reaffirmed in 2021. However, with the reaffirmation came the expectation the Work Group would be re-formed and a revision to the standard developed. An existing set of revision recommendations is already available to support a revision. If you are interested in participating in this working group and being a part of this revision, please contact N13.36 Working Group Chair William McCarthy.
The N13.36 standard establishes minimum requirements and provides recommendations and guidelines for the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of ionizing radiation safety training for workers (e.g., radiation workers, administrative/support staff, management, students, emergency personnel, and visitors). Target audience, responsibilities, training topics, and instructor qualifications are presented. Training program performance requirements are provided, as well as guidance, to assure that the objectives of this standard are met. The N13.36 standard was first approved in 2001 and was subsequently reaffirmed, revised, and reissued since that time to accommodate current regulatory guidance for radiation worker training and safety. The current N13.36 standard is available for free to Health Physics Society (HPS) members on the Member's Only side of the HPS website.
