The Professional and Ethical Standards Task Force was approved by the Health Physics Society (HPS) Board in 2021 and formed by President Emeritus John Cardarelli shortly thereafter. The Professional and Ethical Standards Task Force was tasked with:
- Reviewing recommendations made by a previous task force.
- Offering suggestions for implementation as appropriate. The Board had previously come to consensus on some of these recommendations, among which were those related to professional conduct.
One of the recommendations that came out of this task force was to establish a standing committee (Professional and Ethical Conduct [PEC] Committee), and this was approved by the Board and is to have the following charter:
The purpose of the Professional and Ethical Conduct Committee is to maintain and recommend changes to the Code of Professional and Ethical Conduct for members of the Health Physics Society and to review all concerns about violations of the Code that have been elevated to complaints and referred to the PEC Committee by the Executive Committee and to serve as a resource for all members regarding the Code of Professional and Ethical Conduct.
The Professional and Ethical Conduct Committee is to be composed of seven (7) members who represent various professional and personal backgrounds, as well as technical interests, in order to properly represent the diversity of opinions among the Society.
Please contact me by 15 December 2023 if you would like more information or are interested in serving on this committee. We will likely have each potential member respond to a questionnaire so we ensure we are meeting the criteria laid out above.
