IRPA 16 Young Professional Award in Radiation Protection: Submit Your Application for HPS Nomination Now!

Dear HPS Members,

The International Radiation Protection Association (IRPA) has recently announced the IRPA 16 Young Professional Award in Radiation Protection, to be presented at 16th International Congress, taking place 7–12 July 2024 in Orlando, Florida. Awards will be presented for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.

To be eligible, candidates must:

  • Be nominated by an Associate Society (one nominee per society).
  • Be less than 35 years of age and have less than 10 years of experience in their regular research, academic, or other professional activities (includes students and nonstudents).
  • Be able to make an oral presentation in person at IRPA 16 (all presentations will be in English).

As the Associate Society representing the United States, the Health Physics Society (HPS) will be honored to send a successful candidate to compete for the award and will provide funding (sponsored by the MJW Companies) to attend the joint IRPA 16/69th HPS Annual Meeting as follows:

  • Meeting registration fees
  • Return economy airfare to Orlando, Florida
  • Up to six nights' hotel accommodation at the conference venue (Rosen Shingle Creek)
  • Per diem for meals

IRPA Young Professional Award in Radiation Protection - Rules

If you are an eligible HPS member interested in being considered for nomination, please submit your application (Google Form) no later than 11:59 pm EST on 15 December 2023. The required application materials include:

  1. An abstract (150 to 500 words).
  2. Curriculum vitae.
  3. If the work has more than one author, a written statement confirming that the main author and other authors agree the main author to be the candidate for the award.

A panel of HPS judges will review the entries, choose one nominee no later than 22 December 2023, and issue an official letter of recommendation. Once selected, the nominee must create a one-minute video summarizing the main aspects of their presentation for HPS to submit to IRPA 16 no later than 31 December 2023.

In addition, per IRPA award rules, the full paper must be received at least one month before the start of the conference.

We realize this is a tight timeline but hope you will consider this exciting opportunity to represent the HPS/United States in an international competition for young professionals in the radiation sciences field.
