Sara Dumit Nominated for IRPA 16 Young Professional Award

Congratulations to Dr. Sara Dumit, the Health Physics Society (HPS) nominee for the IRPA 16 Young Professional Award!

The purpose of the award, as stated in the rules:

"The uses of radiation require the education and training of qualified scientists and professionals in the field of radiation protection and safety to ensure high competences in this field. The purpose of this award is therefore to promote the undertaking of investigation effort by young scientists and professionals working in radiation protection in all its fields of competence.

"This award is created as a prize for work done by young scientists and professionals, to help promote the interest and expertise of the new generations in the field of radiation protection in the different Regions, rewarding dedication and excellence. It also aims to encourage youth participation in the activities of the Associate Societies of Radiation Protection around the world, consistent with the objectives of the International Radiation Protection Association (IRPA). An award candidate will present the work in an oral form during a regular parallel session of IRPA 16."

As noted in the purpose, the nominees from radiation protection societies around the world will give an oral presentation at the 16th International Congress of IRPA, which is being held in conjunction with the 69th HPS Annual Meeting, to be held in Orlando in July. First-, second-, and third-place awards will be given during the meeting closing ceremony.

Many thanks also to all the candidates who participated and to HPS Early-Career Professionals Section President Dr. Chu Wang and HPS Academic Education Committee Chair Dr. Jason Harris for assembling an awards committee for selecting the HPS nominee. There was a tight timeline for all involved so the efforts are greatly appreciated. Good luck to Sara at the International Congress!

As part of the nomination package, Sara created a 1-minute video summarizing the main aspects of her presentation "Modeling Plutonium Decorporation in Female Nuclear Worker Treated with Ca-DTPA."
