Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Chairman Richard A. Meserve has announced he will leave the NRC in the spring to assume the Presidency of the Carnegie Institution of Washington. Chairman Meserve was appointed to the post by President Clinton and has held the position for three years.
In a statement to the NRC staff, Chairman Meserve cited a number of things accomplished during his tenure, including effectively responding to the escalated threat of terrorism since the attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon on September 11, 2001. Two members of the Health Physics Society, Commissioner Greta Joy Dicus and Commissioner Nils J. Diaz, currently serve as NRC Commissioners.
