State radiation control program directors and staff make an important contribution to the Health Physics Society (HPS), and we encourage you to explore the benefits of membership and share your expertise with us. As a member, you would also be eligible to contribute to the many sections and committees supported by the Society.
In particular, the Government Section of the Society provides a forum for government, academia, and industry to work together to improve the regulatory aspects of radiation safety. Specific goals include enhancing discussion and improving the definition of the roles of government agencies in national, state, and local radiation protection efforts, as well as providing coordination between the development of governmental regulatory and administrative standards, and relevant standards under development by private and professional organizations, among other things. Review the Government Section objectives from the section's by-laws to see a complete list of its goals.
We hope you will consider becoming a Society member this year. Information on becoming a member is available on the HPS Website. Also, please read the recent message from the Organization of Agreement States' past-chair, Barbara L. Hamrick, regarding Society membership and the contributions of state radiation control program staff.
