Education and Training Opportunities
Society Meetings
The Health Physics Society (HPS) provides educational opportunities for those attending the annual and midyear meetings through the Professional Enrichment Program (PEP) and the Continuing Education Lecture (CEL) Series.
The PEP courses include review topics or topics of current interest, are two hours in length, and are offered at a nominal cost to the participant. The course listing changes each meeting, but the listings and abstracts are available in the meeting registration material. The courses provide four continuing education credits toward recertification of certified health physicists.
The CEL Series lectures include review topics or topics of current interest. These one-hour lectures are offered at no cost to the participant. The course listing changes each meeting, but the listings and abstracts are available in the meeting registration material. The courses provide two continuing education credits toward recertification of certified health physicists.
Starting with the 56th HPS Annual Meeting, the PEP courses and CEL lectures are now being hosted on the Mountains and Plans Educational Research Center website. You can register online and provide the fee via a credit card. Each presentation includes the video of the presenter and the slide being discussed. The participant receives an electronic handout for later review. Alternatively, you can reach the Colorado State University catalog of PEPs and CELs via http://learn.chwe.ucdenver.edu/diweb/catalog/c/61/t/1631/n/0
Professional Development School
The Professional Development School (PDS, formerly called Summer School) is the responsibility of the PDS Committee. The purpose of the school is to provide a professional development opportunity to members of the Society. It is a topical school sponsored by a host chapter, consortium of chapters, or section. The PDS runs in length from a day or two up to one week and provides up to 32 continuing education credits toward recertification of certified health physicists, depending on the length of the course.
No PDS is currently planned for 2020.
